The Agency: Pueblo Y Salud, Inc. (PYS) was founded in 1991 to improve the social conditions of the Latino community by increasing and creating opportunities for self-empowerment. PYS is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization governed by a 5 member board of directors.
The Program: PYS maintains an Environmental Alcohol Prevention/Community Empowerment Project (EAP/CEP) with the overall goal to increase the capacity of community residents to make informed personal, community and public policy decisions regarding the appropriate use, sale and availability of alcohol beverages. PYS also maintains a Tobacco Control Services Project (TCSP) focused on the development and advocacy of public and private policy designed to reduce the advertising and sale of tobacco products to minors and to reverse the trend of targeted marketing in low income and Latino communities.
The Position: Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Project Coordinator will supervise and direct the activities of the EAP/CEP and TSCP Projects and supervise, assign, plan , and evaluate work of personnel. The Projects Coordinator ensures the effective delivery of services and the attainment of project goals and objectives.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual program reports as required by funding sources and Executive Director
2. Supervise and evaluate the performance of the program staff
3. Assist in the development, implementation and attainment of work plans goals and objectives
4. Develop and implement training schedule for staff
5. Ensure the appropriate record-keeping and documentation of
program activities
6. Maintain and expand existing ATOD Prevention Coalitions
7. Assist in developing and implementing resident & business assessments
8. Organize block meetings, community forums, press conferences and other educational events
9. Facilitate the mobilization of residents, including youth, to ensure the responsible sale of alcohol and tobacco products by local merchants and to monitor outlet incidents, product placement and advertising
10. Assist in developing and maintaining a current list of relevant referral services
11. Provide general, Latino and youth specific referral services as needed
12. Implement media advocacy strategies to help change necessary public policy related to alcohol and tobacco availability
13. Assist in establishing community support for the objectives of the project
14. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Project Director

Job Description
Projects Coordinator
Qualifications and Experience: Four years of directly related experience with a community based organization, two years in the field of (ATOD) prevention is desirable. Management experience in the administration of service programs is highly desirable. Should be familiar with The Northeast San Fernando Valley. Should have knowledge and understanding of alcohol, tobacco and other drug related problems, community planning, basic principles of prevention, and the recovery process. Must able to set priorities, make decisions on critical issues and plan and organize service activities. Must be knowledgeable of community mobilization and empowerment strategies. Must be able to lead group meeting and discussions and document work activities.
Must be bilingual/bi-cultural (able to speak, read and write Spanish and English fluently) and competent to work with the various ethnic/cultural groups in the community. Reliable and insured transportation needed. Must have basic word processing skills; knowledge of Corel Word Perfect and/or MS Word, Quattro and/or Excel and Access and/or Paradox is a plus.
Education: B.A. degree in Public Administration, Health Education, Social Sciences or a related field. Pertinent experience may be substituted for the educational requirements at the discretion of the Exec. Director
Salary Range: $32,000 - $36,360 / year; 100% Full Time Equivalent (FTE)
*Position Currently Available half time 50%
